Wash and Care Instructions
Sarees are more than just outfits – they are heirlooms of beauty, tradition, and elegance. Every saree cotton, silk, tissue, or any of our favourite fabrics deserves to be cared for so that they stay beautiful for years. You may already know a great deal about saree care. But here’s something more to help you clean, store, and maintain your sarees.
Silk & Silk-Cotton Sarees
- Always prefer dry cleaning. Hand wash or machine wash can damage the delicate fibres.
- If stained, gently blot with cold water immediately – never scrub.
- Avoid direct sunlight while drying; it can fade the rich colors.
- Do not fold and keep tightly bundled – zari threads may get entangled.
- Wrap sarees in muslin or cotton cloth for storage (we provide you one with every purchase). This allows them to breathe.
- Never store in plastic covers – they can turn zari black and trap moisture.
Cotton Sarees
- Before the first wash, soak in lukewarm water with rock salt for 20 minutes to prevent color bleeding.
- Use mild detergent or shampoo; avoid harsh scrubbing.
- Do not wring; instead, hang over a tap to drain excess water naturally.
- Starch cotton sarees to keep them crisp and stain-free.
- Dry in the shade and store in an airy cupboard.
Tissue & Organza Sarees
- Always opt for dry cleaning – these fabrics are fragile and lose sheen easily.
- Store wrapped in muslin cloth to avoid creasing.
- Iron on low heat with a cotton cloth placed over them. Avoid steam ironing.
- Keep away from moisture and direct heat.
Linen Sarees
- Wash in lukewarm water with mild detergent.
- Avoid frequent washing – linen gets softer with wear.
- Iron when slightly damp for best results.
- Store in breathable cotton bags.
General Saree Care Tips
- For dark-colored sarees, the first wash should be dry cleaning – some extra dye may bleed.
- After that, gentle hand washing in cold water with mild shampoo is safe.
- Always dry in shade to preserve fabric color and strength.
- Store sarees folded neatly in cotton/muslin bags, not plastic.
- Occasionally air them out to keep them fresh.
- Use a soft iron on low heat to remove wrinkles.
With just a little care, your sarees will remain vibrant, elegant, and timeless – ready to be passed down as cherished memories.
